Hello, my freaky darlings!
If this is where you've come in:
Bridgeport is an open, all-are-welcome collaborative group project. Participants design and submit their own characters (ranging from werewolves to sea monsters to vampires to swamp things- even humans, if you so desire!) and incorporate them into the population of the small (fictional) sea-side port town of Bridgeport. We welcome all styles, talents, ages and skill levels, and we're all about getting along, having fun (and monsters)!
Please take your time to read the rules and setting information around the site while I attempt to spend the next few days or so tidying up and updating things!
What follows is an expansion and slight revision of the original forum etiquette:
[/size]
[li] Keep IC (in-character) and OOC (out-of-character) separated. This applies spatially – keep the boards free of clutter and post OOC in the OOC sections. But, more severely, this applies to character interaction. Keep in-character and out-of-character matters separate. For example: if, for any reason, you’re peeved at an author or character, don’t have your character be a jerk to that character. Just...no drama. Keep the drama off the boards, please.
[/li][li] Regarding sexual interaction: No graphic detail. No on-screen penetration. None of that. Fade to black, and take it to a private area if you absolutely must. And following from that, no rape. Period. Rape is out of the question. It’s tasteless, inconsiderate, and nobody wants to read it. More importantly, people will be triggered by it. Just don’t do it. If you absolutely must incorporate it into a story, settle for implications. If you have any questions about this, please ask an administrator.
[/li][li] There will be no godmoding, and no power-gaming. If you have any questions regarding auto-hitting, discuss with your partner. Auto-hitting within reason won’t be discouraged, but if you feel the situation requires consent, it probably does. As a general rule, though, try to use “attempting” language in your posts. If you prefer completely unplanned conflict, there is also a die-based combat guide, here: bridgeport-rp.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=brrules&action=display&thread=12 . Also, please be considerate: don’t post five actions for every one of your partner’s, for example. We like courtesy here on the boards.
[/li][li] Kills are prohibited unless pre-planned and agreed on by all participating players.
[/li][li] Marlene’s is only a facet of these Bridgeport boards; the larger setting is a grungy, free-form, underground urban fantasy. Please be mindful of the setting and the rules regarding magic, secrecy, etc: bridgeport-rp.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=brrules&action=display&thread=11
[/li][li] I’m trying to fix the damn language filter. Bear with me, bitches. That being said, please try to keep the use of questionable language, if not to a tasteful minimum, at least reasonable. Don’t turn Tarantino on us.
[/li][li] While we're accepting of all skill levels, this is also a literate roleplay. I won’t squeeze paragraphs upon paragraphs out of any of you, but please: at least attempt more than two or three sentences. And try your best with the spelling and grammar.
On Character Creation:
[/li][li] Your characters MUST be balanced, in terms of the potency of strengths and weaknesses. If the strengths overshadow the weaknesses, or if the weaknesses don’t affect or have any direct consequences on the character, then the character isn’t balanced. “She’s endearingly clumsy!” or “He might become slightly inconvenienced and angered by water, and some torturous inner anxieties that have no direct bearing on him or his actions – or perhaps make him sexier” won’t fly, here. Think of it this way: even the Greek gods were petty, horny, squabbling and debilitatingly gullible.
[/li][li] On that note, gods and similar all-powerful beings are generally off-limits, but if you are willing to argue your case, talk to an administrator in a private message.
[/li][li] No personas. It's as simple as that. And on the same note, if a character smacks of acting out any sort of fantasy, power or otherwise, you will get a talking-to. Sues and Stus are unfortunately easy to spot.
BUT if for any reason your character isn't accepted, I would be willing to work with you to tweak it until it works. You won't be flat-out denied.
