Phillip Olsen was as bored as a 14-year old who's lived in a cave for 9 days without access to TV and Internet could be. During the first period of his convalescence he had mostly complained about his gun shot - as the wound healed (mostly thanks to Hailey's help) he inevitably found other things to complain about. At first he'd tried to shut up - Hailey had saved his life twice now and didn't deserve to hear his moaning - but as the days passed it became harder and harder to not whine. Like the fish. He knew that fish was healthy and full of protein and so on, but that didn't help when fish was the main food source every day. He'd rather eat fish than starve, but just the thought of eating another fish almost made him sick. He'd made a solemn vow to himself - if he ever got out of this cave, he'd never eat a fish again. And then there was the boredom. He was tired of reading, tired of laying on the bed and stare up at the cave roof, tired of everything. He wasn't tired of Hailey, of course, but he knew that if his mood didn't improve soon she'd be tired of him. But worst of all was probably the fear. This wasn't the sharp, panicky fear that brought out the mold, this was a dull, ever-present fear that kept him awake at night: fear of what he'd done, fear of what he was becoming, fear of his future. And he missed his family. He'd been away from home for two weeks now, and he knew that his father and sister probably was going crazy with worry. Or maybe they thought he was dead. People disappeared from Bridgeport all of the time. But right now he didn't want to think about the fear. Right now he wanted to go out. "Can I go out now?" he asked Hailey in a whiny voice. He was laying on his back on his bed, his head was dangling down over the side of it which made Hailey and the whole cave look like they were upside down. "I'm healthy now, why do I have to stay here?"

Phil was a bit surprised that she'd let him go just like that, but he really wanted to go outside so he'd let it pass. "Oh... okay! See you later then." When Hailey had walked outside he pulled on his shoes and his jacket. His shoulder only hurted a little - it would be back to full functionality soon. Hailey had washed and repaired his jacket, so the blood stains from it were gone. Then he wandered out of the cave. It was a bright day - it took some time for his eyes to get used to the light - but the air was a little bit chilly; a reminder that the summer soon would be over for this year. Phil climbed slowly over a couple of rocks and arrived at the docks. There was no-one there to witness his climb except a few seagulls, and he stopped for a moment to catch his breath. The climb shouldn't have been very wearying, but since he was in bad shape for the moment even small tasks became hard. But just a week ago he shouldn't have been able to stand up, so he guessed it was an improvement. Then he looked around, a bit at a loss what to do. He couldn't go home, or to school, or to any of those places where he used to go and where people could recognize him. He almost expected to see his own face on wanted posters around the town with the text HAVE YOU SEEN ME? under, but since he didn't saw any he hoped he should be okay. He rummaged through his wallet to see if he had any money left, and that he had - around 3.20 dollars. That wouldn't take him far. If he were going to continue his investigations he were going to need money. With that in mind, he headed for a lunch café at the far end of the docks. If what he had in mind would work, then his money problem should be solved soon.

Phil walked into the diner and ordered a sandwich. There were a few people in there already, five people who looked like dock workers, a mom and her two kids and two pensioners. While he sat there waiting for his CBO sandwich he pondered what he was going to do. He'd need money for newspapers - all the local newspapers he could get his hands on. And he'd need access to the internet, preferably at an internet café since the public library computers all sucked. And something to write on. When his sandwich arrived he took a big bite out of it. It was really good, and Phil regretted what he had to do - but this was for the good of the whole community. He touched his sandwich, closed his eyes and concentrated. He didn't want to ruin the whole restaurant here, just the sandwich. Then he waved at the girl who'd brought him his food. She went over to him with a tab and pencil ready. "Would you like to order something more? Maybe something to drink with that?" Phil felt a bit bad for her, but he'd have to make this convincing. "No, I don't. Who made this sandwich?" The girl looked a bit puzzled. "Well... We make all our sandwiches ourselves and only use fresh ingredients..." "Really," said Phil with a frown. "Then how do you explain this?" He lifted the top of the sandwich to reveal something that looked as far from fresh as possible. The chicken was greenish and covered with something that looked like white pelt, and the salad and and the bacon were in the same shape. The girl gasped and put one of her hands in front of her mouth, looking at the sandwich with disgust. Then she turned around to see if any of the other customers had noticed, or were gagging on their food. None of them seemed to have noticed. The mother was trying to calm down her kids, the pensioners were absorbed in talking about old times and the dock workers sat close to the windows, engrossed in conversation. The girl turned back to Phil, determined to handle this like a professional even though she was clearly disgusted. "I'm so, so sorry... I have no idea how... We'll of course give you a full refund." Phil shook his head, knowing that he had to do this proper. "That's not good enough, I could have choked or something. I want 15 bucks, or do you want me to tell everybody else what I've found?" The girl looked shocked, and a bit surprise that he'd ask for such a specific sum. "No, please don't do that! I mean - yes, of course. I'll get the money now." She took the sandwich and hurried away with it, and left Phil sitting there feeling a bit ashamed. He knew that what he was doing right now was blackmailing, but he did this for Bridgeport.

Hailey looked at him from the window and sighed and looked away" so thats what your doing" she walked into the store and went to his table and sat down" hello hello....". She looked alittle slack and stared at him closely to see if he would yell at her or push her away or maybe be shocked, being more shocked about him doig what hes doing she took the annoyed mother and stared him down waiting for his responce.

Phil looked up when Hailey suddenly sat down in front of him and made a long face. Oh, great. This was not going to be fun. "Look, I... I know what this may look like, but I have a reason..." Then the girl came back with the tip jar. She looked from Hailey to Phil and seemed to be a little shocked, like she feared Phil was telling Hailey about their mold-wiches. "Ehm... hi?" she said with a questioning tone. Phil suddenly got angry. Why did Hailey have to come and ruin everything? And what right had she to judge him? She'd killed people. "F*ck this, I'm out of here," he sneered and stood up - his open hands made a banging noise against the table. The girl stepped back, looking surprised. Phil just passed by her on his way out of the diner. As he passed through the door he turned his head. "And don't follow me, you're not my mom."

Hailey collected the money from the waitress and sighed and looked down and watched him storm off"....you really dont trust me do you.." she said to her self. she looked depressed and just sat there before getting up and leaving the resturant and watched him carefully was he really that selfish?, thinking to her self she grew angry and followed him and grabed his arm" do not treat me that way....i dont deserve it ive saved your life ive cared for you kept your secrets and been your friend if this is the way your gonna treat me still then forget it you hear me im getting tired of being treated like sh*t " she said in a serious and angry tone at him. letting go of his arm and she started tearing up" why wont you trust me!! ive fessed up to everthing ive told you all my secrets and i kept you safe even though you told me you didnt need me and that you hated me..........do you hate me still..." she said solemnly and backed up up slightly to leave" do what you want phil....i wont stop you i just worry...thats why i followed you not to judge...just to see if you would be ok"

Phil started to walk faster when he heard that Hailey was following him - when she grabbed his arm he turned around but didn't try to wrestle his way free. He just stood there and listened to the scolding - and a part of him knew that he deserved this. How come he always acted like an idiot at times like this? Even when he had swored to himself that he would act mature and handle this like a grown-up instead of a kid. When Hailey let go of his arm he just stood there, looking at her in a surprised and a little shocked way. He didn't think he'd ever seen her so upset - not even the time in the shopping mall, or when he'd confronted her out at the docks. Maybe this was just how things were - he kept saying and doing stupid things and kept getting a bad conscience when Hailey turned sad. Maybe he just was a jerk and always would be. "I'm..." He hesitated. Right now he was about to break his second vow to himself - he had vowed not to tell Hailey about any of this. He sighed and hung with his head. It was easier to speak to his feet than to Hailey. "I didn't want you to worry. The reason I'm doing this... the reason I didn't tell you... You've already helped me so much, it felt kind of... unfair... to ask for more." He stopped when he realized that he didn't make any sense - then he took a deep breath and started over. "Okay, these last weeks I've been thinking. People are disappearing all over Bridgeport. This small town has an extremely high disappearance rate, and nobody knows what it depends on. I mean, people disappear every month. Sometimes every week. This isn't news, I know, but nobody knows what's causing the disappearances. The cops don't have a clue. But I figured... you know... maybe there are more people like us?" He stopped, not really sure how to continue. "Dangerous people? I mean, I'm not saying that I believe in ghouls and vampires and bogeymen, but it has to be something. And maybe... just maybe... I got this weird sucky ability for a reason. Maybe I'm supposed to use it to... I don't know, stop whatever it is that's making people disappear." He looked up at Hailey and shrugged. "What if my sister goes missing next, or my dad? I mean, I have to do something. I can't go back to school and I'm to young to get a job. Might as well become a monster hunter or something, right?"

Phil's heart sank. This was one of the reasons he hadn't wanted to tell Hailey about his ideas - technically she wasn't human. She might have been born a human, but that had been hundreds of years ago. And even though she occaisionally looked human it didn't mean she was one. But was, and he had to help his own kind. And are you really a hundred percent sure you're human? Normal humans don't do what you just did inside of that diner, said that annoying, dryly voice inside of him he'd come to know and hate. But he just ignored it like he usually did. But Hailey were probably right in that there were both good and bad creatures; after all, they were good, and there must be more like them, right? But then he remembered that Hailey had actually killed people, amongst them two cops, and that he had... he shivered, since he still didn't want to think about the event that had caused him to run away from home in the first place. "Yeah, but if I only go after things that are bad? I have to do something," he repeated. When she said that she knew one but that he was a grim his throat felt very dry. He didn't know what a grim was, exactly, but apparently it was some kind of dog. But he tried not to show how shaken he was. "I'm not afraid of dogs," he lied. "I just... don't like 'em. Besides, that should make me mold even quicker, right?" Then he looked up at Hailey and his tone was serious. "Look, I don't ask you to help me with this, I know you don't like it. But this... this is something I have to do, to prove to myself that I'm still one of the good guys. That I am this way for a reason. So if you don't wan't to help me, all I ask is that you don't try to stop me. Please, Hailey?"

Phil looked down at the ground. He knew he had screwed up, royally. "I...I see. Sorry about all of this." Then he looked up at her again, since he had remembered something. "...but I can still stay with you, right?"
