"Hey--" Laurel jumped from her seat, nearly spilling her drink in the process. "You don't need to do my dishes!" She set the mug down on the table and moved to (fruitlessly) shove him away from the sinks.
"Go sit, you're my guest," she urged him, frowning. "Stop that."
When pushing didn't work she tried pulling, but Laurel didn't have any strength to boast. "Seriously, I can do my own dishes." She looked up to him with disapproval, and sighed. Finally Laurel pointed to the couch. "Go."
She didn't know if just giving out commands was going to do anything, but she wasn't going to let him do her housework, no matter how minimal.

Monty tried to save her some dignity by not outright laughing in her face, but couldn't help chuckling as she fought with him and he continued as if she wasn't even there. "Hush," he said simply, pausing for a moment. "If you cook, I can clean; there's no need for you to do everything, guest or not. It's just not how things are done."
He resumed his chore, giving her a sly look from the corner of his eye. "Am I too old fashioned or are you mortals really so one-sided as far as help goes?"

Laurel made a small grunt as her efforts yielded no results. "Yeah, well..." She had been about to mention that she was raised to do all that for a guest, but then realized both her brother and father would be less pleased to see she was befriending someone who wouldn't even make the effort.
"Well..." She was at a loss for argument.
"N-no it's not that..." Laurel pouted and took the dish towel from the stove handle to dry the clean ones. "Nevermind. Do what you want, then." She was starting to run out of conversation topics. "So are you cold-blooded too? How does that work in...your true form?...in the winter?" She was a little curious as to what he really looked like, but at the same time wondered if it was something she wanted to see.
Snakes and spiders and crawlies weren't exactly things Laurel was friendly with.

The man merely smirked, content that he'd been able to put her at a loss for words on that topic. He finished the dishes, handing her the last one and wiping his hands on the hem of his shirt. "I am, and it's quite a bother in the winter, which is why I stay inside a lot." He glanced to the door. "Sometimes, however, I just can't help but take a trip out and brave the snow for a while."
Monty shrugged. "It's not so bad, I just get sluggish after a while. If I have anything on my stomach, though, I'll get sick. The whole... Needing heat to help digest things... Thing." He leaned against the counter top. "Other than that, it's worth it to get to just be myself."

Laurel put the dishes away in the exact spot she had taken then from, giving him an evil eye but thankful nonetheless. "I understand...sort of..." More accurately, Laurel understood the how though she couldn't really imagine what living cold-blooded was like. She gave him an awkward smile as he mentioned being himself, not really sure what to say. In part, she really didn't know what that was either.
Was she human or a monster? She had no idea.
"I guess my life changed a lot...when I changed," she mused thoughtfully. "Even though I don't really know anything of what happened." Laurel closed the cupboards and drawers and looked to Monty. "Can I get you something else to drink?"

"Sort of?" He inquired, then nodded at her musings. "That's pretty much what happens. I've changed a lot since..." Monty made a face, waving his hand. "Well, since then. We're probably pretty close to the same stage of change, only from opposite ends." He laughed lightly, gesturing to her. "You're heading towards the more monstery end of the spectrum, and I'm headed towards the more human side."
The man shook his head, both at the thought and her offer. "I'm fine, thank you." He lifted a hand to take off his hat, moving his hair over one shoulder as it fell and heading back to his pile of candy and clothing to deposit it atop the collection.

"I hope not..." Laurel mumbled with a worried expression. "The last thing I want to do is put anyone I care about in danger..." She shook her head. "No, I don't want to think about that." Aversion was really her only way of dealing with it. She retrieved her mug and returned to the couch flipping on the television and turning the volume down, for the background noise.
"So you probably live close, since you don't like to go out in the cold?" she asked, tapping her fingers against the mug.
"If you do, you should stop by the Linda's cafe when I get back from visiting my family. We don't make them as good as this," she held her mug up, "But it's not bad. Besides, I wouldn't mind having someone to chat with during my break." She only almost ever worked days and evenings with Linda or her oldest daughter - and while she loved her boss, the daughter was a nightmare.

Monty was lost for a moment, pondering what it would be like to be concerned for loved ones. It then occurred to him he'd never had loved ones. The thought caused him to blink a few times, puzzled at this revelation. He'd found a seat on the floor whilst this epiphany took place, and came back to earth when the subject changed.
"Oh, um.. Close to the convenience store, at least. But the clerk closed early from lack of business this evening or something, hence the extra layers." He waved in the general direction of his coat and pull-overs, then smiled. "I'll be sure to look into your cafe, I'm always up for trying new things when it comes to edible items."
The thought reminded him that earlier that evening he'd considered her on the menu, and his gaze turned a dark burnt orange as it quickly swept over her once more. He laughed lightly to himself. Was this considered playing with his food, or saving a lamb from slaughter? He wasn't up to date on analogies.

Laurel watched him pause when she spoke, listening to his answer. "Oh, not far then. But you should come...what I should do is figure this all out." She spread her hands and sighed. "Then go back to school and open a bakery somewhere." She leaned back against the couch. "Eventually..."
She looked over as he chuckled.
"What's so funny?" She frowned slightly. "I could run a bakery if I wanted." She sipped slowly at her drink, waiting for him to explain. Though if she knew what was on his mind, she might not like to hear that either.

Monty held up a hand. "I'd be more than willing to aid you in your endeavors, as long as I could be a taster. Officially or un-." He grinned, then waved off her question. "I've no doubt you could manage a bakery, and I'd wager you'll be splendid at it once you do." He continued on cheerfully, looking completely oblivious as to whether or not his explanation was a wise thing to be put out in the open. "I was just thinking, only a little while earlier I was debating on eating you, and now this. It's quite a turn of events," he pointed out, smiling at her as if he'd explained why he'd chosen blue socks over gray instead of telling her she'd been this close to becoming a late night snack.

Laurel's smile had returned as he encouraged her bakery idea and she'd been about to continue when he went on about eating her. Laurel's eyebrows raised and she didn't quite know whether or not to take him seriously. "Are you...serious or...?"
She set the mug down on the coffee table and watched him for a few minutes.
"...you aren't joking."
Laurel laughed nervously. "Well...I've never had the other side of me save me...maybe that's why...I'm glad you didn't."
Awkward moment, commence!

Monty was completely free from any awkward actions; he was completely oblivious thanks to his beliefs that he wasn't off or abnormal in the slightest. "I've yet to meet a creature lacking perks to his or her 'affliction.' Call it silver lining, if you will."
But he tilted his head as he looked at her, not completely ignorant to his company's disposition. "Are you taken aback by my diet, or the fact that you were on the menu?"

"When I find mine, I'll be the first to let you know," she said weakly. When he asked her what surprised her, she wasn't sure what to answer. Surely it was logical that...big snakes ate smaller living things. Some 'normal' snakes probably ate people and small children, too!
"Well...I..." Laurel closed her eyes to gather her thoughts. "I've never been told I was almost dinner," she told him, trying to say it as simply as possible. "I appreciate...you letting me know." Did she really? She wasn't sure. "But I'm not getting that vibe from you now...so...it's all good, I guess."
Was she in shock? Maybe.
"Really though. I'm glad you didn't eat me." She tried smiling. "That turned out better, didn't it?"

Monty frowned some, concerned with her expressions as she spoke. Apparently she wasn't taking well to things, and it would've been a shock to anyone who remotely knew Monty when he said, "I'm sorry, Laurel. You'll understand if my sense of tact isn't the best, I'm not exactly a socialized creature."
Was it a sign of the apocalypse? Was fire raining from the heavens? The world had to be ending for the man to be apologizing to anyone. As if his thoughts followed such an idea, Monty's now teal-colored eyes checked the windows to see if he could see any sign of a disaster happening.

"N-no! Don't apologize!" She held up her hands quickly. "I er...um." Laurel shook her head. "This is awkward, um...I guess because you look pretty human," Give or take the horns and the eyes, "I just wasn't really expecting it." She sunk back into the couch with an agitated sigh, covering her eyes with her hand.
"I'm not very good at this, either," she admitted. "This is...probably my first real conversation since I was attacked."
Well didn't that make her feel all kinds of cool. "I guess we can be socially awkward together, right, Monty?" She laughed again, this time for real.
