((ooc: Laurel is so not a limelight type, I feel like I'm wading in mud trying to progress this ;_; sorry for crap posts.))
Her first reaction was a deep frown at the man and his negativity, but that changed into complete shock as Monty pulled it off. She hoped he wouldn't brush off her questions later. Laurel joined the crowd in enthusiastic applause and couldn't help but feel some sort of justice was served. Monty's job seemed to her, far more enjoyable than her own. Of course, it required a lot more talent than hers, too.
Was there some sort of transformation trick to this? Laurel crossed her arms as she tried to figure it out. A ringing sound began echoing in her ears from the sound of the small crowd; who knew there were this many people out and about during the day? Bridgeport always seemed quiet to her.
Laurel moved out of the way of them and let them move closer. She shook her head - as if it would make the ringing quit - and after a few minutes of focus on her shoes, it went away.
A couple of cynical looking teenagers hung at the back of the crowd, cracking quiet remarks back and forth to each other about how they thought the feat worked and that the man with the cylinder was just an idiot. They looked back at Monty went back to whispering, obviously trying to think of something to test the performer's limits.

(( Oh, no worries; I figured out a bit too late that rping him working wouldn't be as entertaining as originally thought. :P I can wrap it up, Monty was about to call it quits anyway. ))
Monty twisted the tube, pressing his feet together and easily slipping out before he handed the cylinder to its owner and grinned at the man's irritation. The spectator threw his twenty dollar bill on the ground and, like with the others, Monty picked it up and seemed to ingest it.
His step wasn't as fluid as before, and he swayed ever so slightly as he bowed yet again. "That's all for today, ladies and gentlemen." He waved and promptly forgot about the crowd, picking up his things.
His light indigo gaze flitted through the reluctantly dissipating crowd to find Laurel, and he approached her with a wry smile. "Ta da," he said with a small chuckle and a spread of his hands.

"That was awesome," she told him happily. "Are you going to tell me how you did any of it?" She watched him sway a little and supposed squeezing through a tube was probably exhausting.
Laurel put both hands in her pockets and shifted her weight to one foot. "Where to now?" He'd mentioned a trip to the forest, earlier, but if he was tired, she could wait for that too. "I feel like the boring part of this friendship now, just so you know," she teased. "I guess I'll just have to enter a cooking competition to get my cool points back."
Although, at the mention of that, this did give her a cool idea for a cake, if she ever got the time and tools together for it...

Monty grinned and started to shake his head in response, then glanced around and shrugged. "Sure, why not? You know a couple of my secrets already," he teased. She knew a lot more than most people, and it's not like he was an actual magician. The code need not apply to him.
"The forest, I suppose. Unless you wouldn't want to," he added quickly. He was so used to just doing things on his own that he wasn't sure if he was dragging her along unwillingly. At her mention of their friendship he pause, looking serious for a moment before a broad smile bloomed on his face. He had almost forgotten that they indeed had a friendship, and after so long of having... Well.... Nothing at all, it was quite refreshing. "Boring? You? Posh." He reached into his hat and rubbed his horns tenderly as he spoke. "You're far more intriguing than me. But please, don't hesitate to cook for redemption of your coolness; I wouldn't mind in the least."
He briefly wondered how long said friendship would last, and then by extension wondered how long she would. A brief glance over her had him frown momentarily, and he mentally shoved that thought way back in his mind.

"No, I don't mind," Laurel told him cheerfully. "I've never really been, actually." She was pleased he was going to tell her, like even the small bit of knowledge made her cooler than everyone else. She began walking as he teased her.
"I don't mind cooking either. Glad you're supportive of it." She stuck out her tongue at him.
She caught his frown, but it went away a moment afterward so she said nothing. "Am I going the right direction?" It only occured to her that she didn't know the fastest way to get there, or which part of the surrounding forest he wanted to go to.
"Maybe you should lead the way."

"It's nice, and I'll enjoy actually getting out and stretching my scales a bit." He cherished every moment he could be out in his own skin, but he also didn't want to live in the forest all the time. It brought bad memories after a while.
"You haven't visited the forest?" He asked as he once more had to bring himself back from his thoughts. Was he trying to ruin his mood today?. "Aside from the port it's a very prominent feature to Bridgeport, you should have. Although," he added after thinking a moment. "With all the beasties that have migrated to this place, it might be better that you didn't go wandering in it all by your lonesome."
As her tongue made its appearance Monty puffed his chest up, looking haughty. "It's my duty to encourage the hobbies of my friends so that they may better themselves." He paused for a bit before shrugging and looking down the sidewalk. "It's merely a bonus that I get to consume your hobby."
He gestured further down on the sidewalk, starting to tell her it was a few block before they got to the path towards the forest when he recalled that he had picked up some cash today. He held up a finger, opening his mouth and reaching inside with a free hand to extract a wad of money. He wiped it on his pants, took out the twenty, and stuffed the rest into a pocket. "Excuse the vulgarity, but it pays the bills. We can get a cab, otherwise it would take a little longer. But we're on the right track, you got it right." He smiled before searching for a taxi.

"Yeah," Laurel agreed, "I don't really want to hurt other people, or have other people coming out after me. That would be a little hard to explain to my family, back home." She shook the thought from her mind, if she obsessed over it then it would happen.
She laughed as the topic went back to food. "I'm happy you like my hobby, then. I don't know why anyone wouldn't, I'm going to be the best one day, after all."
Laurel stopped, and watched him pull the money out. Part of her was grossed out - did he know how dirty that money could be? - but fascinated at the same time. "Ah, we can take a cab, if you want. I don't mind walking either. It's a nice day."
She'd only taken a cab once, in Bridgeport, and that was from the airport to her apartment, so she had no idea where the best place to find one, without calling, during the day.
